An absolutely stunning example of an English oak Arts & Crafts 6 drawer chest of drawers with original handles, using the dovetail mortise and tenon joint technique.

This is superb. Beautifully hand carved, with decorative oak leaves, acorns, pomegranates, conch shells and clam shells, bulls, family crests, dolphins and florals, all representing fertility, long life, purity.

Probably a bespoke piece to celebrate a marriage, that of Suffolk based Philip Wyndham Cobbold and Cecily Augusta née Nevill, who were married in 1902.

The two Latin family crests quotes translate to ‘Strong through Adversity’ and ‘Think nothing base’.
